Focus
While the philosophy at Genetic Resources continues to evolve, some of the element’s key to building our program are listed below:
Avoiding extremes either genetic or phenotypic
Continued pursuit of extremes will eventually become a costly wreck.
Reducing cost of production
While the revenue associated with extreme cattle production is great for coffee shop bragging, revenue — expenses pays the bills.
Increasing consistency
One of the values of consistency is sorting reduction…...” life is too short, for much sort.”
Matching cattle to environment and management
Cattle are products of their genetics, environment and management.
Cattle that are well matched to all three are generally most profitable.
Many seedstock producers advocate a maximum production philosophy, with assumption of profit. This maximum is better philosophy is characterized by continually pushing the bounds of performance, with less regard for the cost and management required to reach that performance. The cost and management to achieve maximum performance does not always lead to maximum profits. Genetic Resources philosophy is different, it is focused on maximizing the difference between cowherd revenue - expenses.
